Find Business License Requirements

Determining the types of licenses that you may need to start or expand your business can be an overwhelming process. When operating a business in Colorado, you’ll need to register at the federal, state, and local level. Check out the Colorado Resource Book for registering tips. We also recommend that you reach out to your local municipality to determine industry license requirements.

The Colorado SBDC recommends researching and using the websites of state agencies that manage permits, license, and regulations, such as:

DORA is responsible for many of the state’s licenses, permits, and filings. DORA maintains an A to Z listing of their regulations

CDPHE is responsible for public health and environment regulations.

DOR collects most types of taxes and issues state identifications cards and driver licenses. DOR enforces Colorado laws regarding gaming, liquor, tobacco, racing, auto dealers, and marijuana.

DNR is responsible for the development, protection, and enhancement of Colorado natural resources.
